Dr. Pramod graduated in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry in 2008 from COVAS, Mannuthy, Kerala. Further, he completed MVSc and PhD in Animal Genetics and Breeding from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, UP. He has held several research and academic positions, including Scientist D at DBT–THSTI, Faridabad; Scientist at AgriGenome Labs, Cochin; and Postdoctoral Fellow at Seoul National University, South Korea. At IVRI, Dr. Pramod worked on animal transgenesis using sperm- and testis-mediated gene transfer methods. During his postdoctoral tenure, he contributed to the project “Development of germ cell transfer technique using quail) spermatogonial stem cells as a model for the restoration of endangered birds.”
At AgriGenome Labs, Dr. Pramod and his team were the first to report the complete mitochondrial genome of Indian cattle and successfully sequenced the whole genome of Bos indicus. At THSTI, he established a mouse germplasm cryopreservation facility and was actively involved in laboratory animal genetic and health monitoring, quality control, and training programs.
His research has investigated the role of small RNAs in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus. At ICMR-NARFBR, he has been actively involved in diverse preclinical studies, including the development of a NOD-SCID mouse CDX model for breast cancer, Chandipura virus pathogenesis studies in guinea pigs, and toxicity evaluation of anti-tuberculosis molecules in rat models. He is also contributing to the PM-ABHIM project on dengue virus using the rabbit model. Currently, Dr. Pramod is engaged in preclinical research with a focus on developing genetically engineered animal models for neurodegenerative and autoimmune disorders.
